Feed the Beast: Imran Mahmood

Feed the beast is back! And this time criminal barrister & author Imran Mahmood is in the hot seat. Imran's been a criminal barrister for more than 25 years, with more than 20 years experience in the Crown Court and Court of Appeal. He specialises in Legal Aid cases involving serious crime, such as murder, fraud, and sexual offences.

Earlier this year, his debut novel, You Don't Know Me, was published by Penguin. It tells the story of a black kid from South East London who's on trial for murder: on the last day of his trial, he sacks his barrister, and decides to tell the jury 'the truth'. The whole thing is written in his voice, and it's definitely worth a read.

Imran talked to us about living a life in (not of) crime, going home and writing about it, and dealing with accusations of cultural appropriation, which was awesome.
